Installed Andersen storm door on a Lake County, Ohio home

Storm Door Installation in Lake County, OH

A storm door adds another layer between your entry door and the weather, while letting in daylight and providing ventilation when the screen is in use. If your current door sags, sticks, has a torn screen or no longer seals properly, a replacement can make your entrance easier to use and give it a fresh look.

Lake County Handymen installs and replaces storm doors throughout Mentor, Willoughby and Lake County. Jeff Vojtko personally checks the opening, discusses your door and hardware options, and fits the replacement with attention to alignment, weather sealing and smooth operation.

Choosing a Storm Door

Consider how much light and airflow you want, the direction the door should swing, and the clearance around your entry handle. Full-view glass, retractable screens, seasonal ventilation and decorative glass are available on different models. Low-E glass and locking options depend on the door configuration you choose; Jeff can review those details before you order.

Our Installation Process

1. Check the Opening

Jeff measures the opening and checks the frame and exterior brickmolding for damage, square and plumb alignment, and a sound mounting surface. Older homes can have settled or uneven openings; shimming, leveling or trim repairs may be needed before a new door is fitted.

2. Remove the Old Door and Prepare the Frame

The old door and mounting rails are removed, and the opening is prepared. Loose or damaged trim is addressed as agreed in the estimate. If removal reveals hidden rot, Jeff explains the additional repair before continuing. Flashing and sealants are applied where appropriate for the opening.

3. Fit the Door and Hardware

The mounting rails and hinges are secured, the door is hung with suitable clearances, and the handle, lockset and closer are fitted according to the selected model’s instructions. The bottom expander and weatherstripping are adjusted to help create an even seal.

4. Adjust, Test and Clean Up

Jeff checks the swing, latch, locks and closer speed, verifies the glass and screen operation where applicable, and checks weatherstrip contact. Agreed finishing work and cleanup complete the installation.

Storm Door Frame and Trim Repair

Loose mounting rails, worn closers and damaged weatherstripping do not always call for a whole new door. Jeff can assess whether a repair is practical. Rotted exterior wood needs attention before a replacement storm door is mounted; PVC brickmolding can be an option for replacing damaged wood trim.

Storm Door Installation Cost

Most storm door installations in Lake County range from $900 to $1,200 installed, depending on the door model, glass options and the condition of the existing frame. Trim repairs and additional finishing can affect the scope. Jeff provides a free, up-front estimate for your particular opening before any work begins.

Storm Door Care

Clean the glass and screen, check weatherstripping and mounting screws, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for lubrication and closer adjustment. Seasonal changes can affect how a door closes. Warranty terms and maintenance requirements depend on the model; keep the product documentation for reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Lake County Handymen install an Andersen 3000 Series storm door on an older Lake County home?

Yes. Older homes in Willoughby and Mentor often have exterior door frames that are slightly out-of-square or settled. We inspect the frame, shim and level where necessary, apply proper flashing and sealant, and tune the hydraulic closers so your Andersen storm door closes smoothly with a tight weather seal.

Will an Andersen storm door help lower my winter heating bills in Northeast Ohio?

Yes. Installing an Andersen 3000 Series storm door with Low-E glass creates an insulating air barrier over your main entry door, preventing cold drafts and reducing heat loss by up to 15% during harsh Lake County winters.

Do you install Andersen French patio doors or entry doors, or just storm doors?

We install the full range of Andersen door products — including Andersen 3000 Series storm doors with multi-point locks, replacement entry doors, and sliding or hinged patio doors.
