Mentor Storm Door Installation Project
Sandy’s front entrance on Bunker Cove in Mentor needed a new storm door. The old door was sagging, the screen was torn, and the frame no longer sealed properly against the jamb. Jeff Vojtko replaced it with an Andersen 3000 Series storm door and addressed the opening so the new door would close smoothly and seal tightly.
The Ask
The worn-out door had become a frustrating part of an everyday entrance. Sandy wanted a sound replacement with a clean appearance, reliable hardware and a better weather seal. An Andersen 3000 Series door provided the glass and hardware configuration for this project.
Removing the Old Door and Preparing the Opening
Jeff removed the old storm door and checked the frame for square and plumb alignment. Frame repair and preparation gave the new mounting rails a sound surface. The opening needed attention before the replacement could be fitted correctly, rather than simply attaching a new door to the old problem.
Installing the Andersen 3000 Series Door
The replacement was fitted with its aluminum frame, Low-E glass and multi-point locking hardware. Jeff secured the mounting rails and hinges, fitted the handle and closer, and adjusted the bottom expander and weatherstripping. Hardware and glass choices for other installations depend on the selected model.
Adjustments and Final Checks
With the door in place, Jeff checked the clearances, swing and latch, adjusted the closer for smooth operation, and inspected the weatherstrip contact around the opening. The hardware and glass or screen operation were checked before the work area was cleaned up.
The Result
The sagging, worn-out storm door was replaced by a neatly fitted entrance with smooth operation and a tight weather seal. The new door also gave the front entrance a noticeable improvement in curb appeal. The replacement was completed in a single day.
