Exterior Trim, Soffit and Rot Repair in Lake County, OH
Peeling garage trim, a soft soffit corner, or a stair that no longer feels solid can point to more than a cosmetic problem. Lake County Handymen repairs damaged exterior wood and replaces rotted sections so the finished work is sound underneath, not just freshly painted. Jeff Vojtko personally quotes and carries out the work throughout Willoughby, Mentor and Lake County.
What We Repair
- Rotted garage door trim and exterior door surrounds
- Damaged soffits and fascia boards
- Siding corners and exterior corner boards
- Localized exterior wood rot and deteriorated trim
- Rotted back-door and patio stairs
- Caulking, priming and painting to finish the repaired area
Our Exterior Repair Process
1. Look Beyond the Surface
Jeff checks the condition of the affected wood and the surrounding area, discusses the damage with you, and explains the proposed repair. The estimate takes account of access, materials and the finish you want.
2. Remove the Damaged Material
Rotted sections are removed rather than covered over. Opening the area makes it possible to see the condition behind the trim or soffit; if more damage is uncovered, Jeff discusses it with you before going further.
3. Repair or Replace
The damaged area is rebuilt with material suited to the job. That may mean replacing wood, fitting PVC trim, or building replacement composite stairs. Profiles and dimensions are chosen to work with the surrounding exterior.
4. Finish and Walk Through
Caulking, primer and paint are applied where appropriate, the work area is cleaned up, and Jeff walks through the repair with you.
Real Exterior Repair Projects and Prices
These four completed jobs show the difference between replacing trim, rebuilding a damaged corner, and repairing or replacing stairs. Prices reflect each project’s scope; your home will receive its own free estimate.

Rotted garage door trim replacement, Willoughby Hills, $895
The wood trim around this garage door had rotted and peeled down to bare wood. We removed the damaged trim and replaced it with rot-proof PVC trim, caulked and painted for a clean, lasting finish.

Soffit and siding rot repair, Willoughby Hills, $1,150
Water had rotted the soffit and corner boards on the side of this home. We cut out the damaged wood, rebuilt the corner, and finished it to blend in with the existing siding.

Stair replacement, Oakdale Avenue, Willoughby, $995
We removed the old rotted patio stairs and built custom-width composite stairs using Azek material, adding durable wrought iron handrails. The homeowner appreciated our being “very meticulous about making sure the work was done correctly and to our satisfaction.”

Rotted stair repair, Lagoon Dr, Eastlake, $750
Years of moss had made these back-door stairs slick and unsafe. It took six hours to repair the rotted wood and make the stairs solid and secure again.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does exterior trim or rot repair cost?
The completed projects below show what different repairs have cost: $895 for garage door trim, $1,150 for soffit and siding rot repair, $995 for replacement patio stairs, and $750 for a rotted stair repair. These are individual project prices, not a flat rate. Your estimate depends on the amount of damaged wood, access, materials, and finishing needed.
Can rotted trim simply be painted over?
Paint does not restore wood that has gone soft or lost its strength. Damaged sections need to be removed and repaired or replaced before the finish goes on. Jeff can look at the affected area and explain what the repair involves.
Do you use PVC or composite materials?
Yes, where they suit the job. The Willoughby Hills garage trim project used PVC trim, and the Oakdale Avenue stair replacement used Azek composite material. Material choices are discussed as part of your estimate.
Do you repair exterior stairs as well as trim and soffits?
Yes. The Willoughby and Eastlake examples show both complete stair replacement and repair of rotted wooden stairs. The condition of the existing stairs determines whether a repair or replacement makes sense.
Who will quote and carry out the repair?
Jeff Vojtko owns and operates Lake County Handymen and personally quotes, schedules, and does the work. The business has been operating since 2023 and is fully insured.
