Mentor Headlands Park Drop Ceiling Replacement
In 2025, Lake County Handymen was hired by the supervisor of Mentor Headlands Park to tear out the dated, stained, and damaged drop ceiling throughout the park’s service shop and install a brand-new suspended ceiling in its place. Three days, one clean install, and two very happy park staff members later, the shop looked like a different space.
The Ask
The shop foreman and park supervisor at Mentor Headlands Park reached out about a tired drop ceiling that had seen better days. Years of moisture and minor leaks had left tiles stained and crumbling, and several grid sections were damaged or sagging. They needed someone who could come in around the foreman’s working hours, work cleanly inside an active service shop, and leave them with a finished ceiling that would hold up for years.
Day 1 — Tear-Out in Five Hours
We showed up on the agreed start date, masked off the work area, and got after the old ceiling. In about five hours we had the entire existing drop ceiling dismantled — old tiles bagged, grid components pulled down, and the perimeter wall angle removed. Debris was hauled out cleanly so the shop stayed usable for the foreman.
Day 2 — Measuring, Laser Leveling & Grid
With the room open, we re-measured the space and laid out the new grid so border tiles would be balanced on every wall. We laser-leveled a clean line around the entire perimeter and fastened the new wall trim tight to that line so the finished ceiling would be dead-level from corner to corner.
From there, we hung the main runners from the joists with suspension wire at consistent spacing, snapped the cross tees into place, and checked the grid for square at multiple points. Existing HVAC vents, returns, and electrical fixtures were planned into the layout so nothing had to be cut twice.
Day 3 — Tiles, Trim-Outs & Final Walkthrough
Day three was tile day. We installed brand-new super-white, insulated ceiling tiles throughout the shop, trimming each border tile individually for a tight, clean fit. Around every vent, light, and existing ceiling opening, we cut tiles in place so the new ceiling looked intentional — not patched. After a final walk-through with the foreman, we cleaned the space top to bottom and packed up.
The Result
The shop went from dim, stained, and dated to bright, level, and crisp — the insulated tiles also helped quiet the room and brighten the overall lighting. Both the foreman and the park supervisor were thrilled with the finished product, and have since referred us to other parks in the region, where we’ve been able to do additional work.
