Eastlake QuietCool 4700 Whole House Fan Installation
Chris and his wife live in Eastlake, Ohio in a home with no central air conditioning. During the summer of 2023, the heat inside the house became miserable. The Ask
Chris reached out looking for relief from the summer heat. Without central air, the upstairs bedrooms and living areas were trapping hot air and making it hard to sleep. He had already researched whole house fans and decided on a QuietCool QC CL-4700 model. He purchased the fan and all installation materials and asked us to install it properly, cleanly, and with attention to attic access, electrical connections, and venting.
Day 1 — Attic Access, Framing, and Rough-In
We started by inspecting the attic space above the hallway to confirm the best location for the fan and intake grill. After locating ceiling joists and clearing a safe work area, we framed out the rough opening to match the QuietCool 4700 housing dimensions. We also verified there was adequate attic ventilation so the fan could pull air through the living space and exhaust it properly.
Day 2 — Fan Mounting, Ducting, and Electrical
On day two we mounted the QuietCool motor head in the attic, connected the insulated flexible duct between the fan and the ceiling damper box, and secured the ceiling grill assembly. We tied the fan into a dedicated electrical circuit with proper switching so Chris could control it from the hallway. Every connection was tested for secure mounting, smooth damper operation, and safe electrical draw.
Day 3 — Testing, Cleanup, and Walkthrough
With the installation complete, we ran the fan through its speeds, checked airflow at the intake grill, confirmed the damper closed tightly when the fan was off, and made sure the attic was left clean. We walked Chris through operation and maintenance, including how to use the fan in the evening to pull cool outside air through the house and flush out the daytime heat.
The Result
Chris and his wife noticed the difference immediately. Instead of baking in trapped hot air, they could open a few windows at night, turn on the QuietCool fan, and feel the entire house cool down in minutes. The summer of 2023 became far more comfortable, and they did it without the cost of installing central air conditioning.
